Doors open at 6:30pm, concert at 7pm Okanagan jazz staples, the Argatoff brothers, are joined by Toronto-based drummer Harry Vetro for an evening of jazz music. This chordless quartet, featuring alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, acoustic bass, and drums, will be performing the compositions of Lenny Tristano, Lee Konitz, and Warne Marsh, a sub-genre of jazz music characterized by contrapuntal melodies, harmonic departures, and rhythmic creativity.
Lenny Tristano was a jazz pianist and prominent educator active in New York from the 1940's until his death in 1978. Though a skilled pianist and composer, much of Tristano's impact on the jazz tradition came through his teaching, with two of his most prominent students being saxophonists Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh. Tristano was one of the few people teaching jazz improvisation at the time, and his unusually short 15-20 minute lessons were offered to musicians playing any instrument.…
